Huge New Sports Complex in Harsud (Khandwa District)

The Madhya Pradesh government has given its in-principle approval to construct a state-level sports complex in Harsud, a prominent town in Khandwa district. The ambitious project is estimated to cost around ₹100 crore and is designed to transform the sporting landscape of the region, especially benefiting youth and athletes from tribal and rural areas.

According to officials, the complex will feature world-class infrastructure including:

  • Multi-purpose stadiums for athletics, football, and cricket
  • Indoor facilities for badminton, table tennis, and martial arts
  • Modern gymnasiums, swimming pools, and fitness centers
  • Dedicated training centers for local talent
  • Administrative buildings, hostels, and sports science facilities

The project aims not only to encourage sports participation among local youth but also to host state and national-level tournaments, putting Harsud and Khandwa on the national sports map. Authorities have emphasized that the focus will be on developing tribal talent, with scholarships and training programs for deserving athletes.

The government has also highlighted job creation and economic growth as secondary benefits, as the construction and subsequent operation of the complex are expected to provide employment opportunities in coaching, administration, and facility management.

Local leaders and sports enthusiasts have welcomed the announcement, calling it a game-changer for Khandwa district. They noted that such infrastructure was long overdue and expressed hope that it would reduce migration of talented youth to bigger cities for sports training.

Officials stated that land acquisition and planning are already underway, with detailed project reports (DPRs) expected to be finalized soon. Construction could begin within the next year, with completion targeted in phases over the next 3–4 years.

The Harsud Sports Complex is expected to become a flagship model for sports development in rural Madhya Pradesh, inspiring other districts to invest in similar infrastructure.
